Orientation

Landscape and portrait recording with auto-detection.

Auto-Detection

When you tap the record button for the first time, Recap detects whether your device is held in landscape or portrait orientation.

A confirmation sheet appears showing the detected orientation. You can confirm or cancel if it wasn't detected correctly.

Landscape vs Portrait

  • Landscape (horizontal) — best for sports and wide-angle filming. Most output types are optimised for landscape content.
  • Portrait (vertical) — ideal for individual moments or social media-style content. All outputs automatically adjust their layout for 9:16 aspect ratio.

Orientation Lock

Once confirmed, your orientation is locked for the entire recording session. This ensures all clips within an event have a consistent aspect ratio, which is essential for seamless video processing.

You cannot change orientation mid-session. If you need a different orientation, end the current session and start a new one.
